This hand dyed peacock blue silk wrap has inlaid strips of silk to create texture. Woven by fair trade artisans, the weavers insert an extra piece of yarn to create a pattern on the silk wrap. The weaver used tussah silk yarn which is made by the silk worm that feeds on wild mulberry leaves. The leaves have a higher content of tannin, resulting in a honey colored silk.
I dyed the fabric using Saxon Blue Indigo which makes a brilliant peacock blue.
After dyeing the shawl was neutralized in a vinegar bath and washed three times. The vinegar strengthens the silk fibers and restores the sheen. The wrap is easy care, can be hand or machine washed on delicate cycle. Colorfast. Hang to dry, and iron if desired.
Lightweight, travel friendly, and great for proms and all seasons.
